Can a Gum Graft Last Forever?

Meet our patient, EK, who presented with quickly degenerating soft tissues after orthodontic therapy.  Compared with grafting materials that resorb in the body within 37 weeks, tissue harvested from the roof of the mouth can be retained for a lifetime. The tissue on the palate has keratinized anatomy similar to what is found in your hair and hails and is resistant, once it “takes”, to every day wear and tear over time. Please see above for before and after images of EK who is pleased with the performance and esthetics of her graft. She no longer worries about the health of her lower teeth after free gingival graft therapy.

If you are looking for a long-term solution to your recession, Dr. Lauren Anderson can provide treatment options and review what is involved along with the success rates long term in your case.  At Anderson Periodontal Wellness, we are committed to educating you prior to any therapy.  In our experience, those that become educated about their anatomy and the procedure do better and have better results!  Please call (248) 480-4910 to reserve time with Dr. Anderson and our team.
