Gumline after Mucogingival Defects

Mucogingival defects involve locations where gum is not attached to the tooth but rather mucosa or “cheek” tissue does. These locations are vulnerable to recession as a consequence. Much of the time there are muscle pulls in the area that make this worse, perpetuate the recession and loosen the gum. Although treatment options are tailored to each case individually, free gingival graft procedures are the ideal treatment option as they regenerate lost gum, increases the band of keratinized or “strong” tissue, and displace the aberrant muscle pulls in the area so that the recession does not reoccur.

If you would like to learn more about your case, please contact our office to schedule an examination with Dr. Lauren Anderson at Anderson Periodontal Wellness in our Office in Bloomfield Hills, MI at (248) 480-4910. She will analyze your presentation, determine if intervention is required and what treatment options are recommended specific to your anatomy.
